Set in France encircling 1760, the Marquise de Merteuil necessarily a favour from her ex-lover, Vicomte de Valmont. One of the Marquise de Merteuil s ex-lovers, Gercourt, is betrothed to a young, chaste, woman called Cecile de Volanges. The Marquise would like Valmont to allure Cecile before her wedding day, in this manner humiliating Gercourt. Meanwhile, Valmont has a discomfiture of his own in mind: Madame de Tourvel, a fine, married, and God fearing woman. The Marquise doesn t imagine that Valmont can seduce Mme de Tourvel. She tells him that whether he can provide written proof of a sexual clash with Mme de Tourvel, she demise offer him a reward: one finally night with her. Valmont, however, pleasure find himself falling in love by Mme de Tourvel, and facing the mortal jealousy of the Marquise de Merteuil. All along, Cecile de Volanges is used for the re~on that a pawn in this game of sexual victory and scorned love.
